I LOVE this record…this is why I LOVE music….

from Joe Cocker “Stingray” with the very best band EVER,,,,”Stuff”.  That would be Richard Tee, Eric Gale, Gordon Edwards and Steve Gadd. Listen to how this track builds…it is pure genius.

Lars Danielsson…this man is a genius. Listen…..

Swedish Bassist Lars Danielsson here at the Jazz Baltica 2010. This man’s music is special.  So beautiful, so visual, so much space here to interact with the music. The band is wonderful. I had the great pleasure of playing with drummer Magnus Öström last year when I was in Stockholm. I was playing with the great tenor saxophonist Lennart Åberg, and Magnus was playing drums. Magnus was a force and had a pocket as wide as a Vermont barn!  So hip!! Magnus was also the drummer in E.S.T., the amazing trio with the late, great pianist Esbjörn Svensson, and supreme bassist Dan Berglund. I hope you enjoy this wonderful Scandinavian music….

Check out My Photography Page….

My hobby and passion is photography…music and photography are the yin/yang for me.  One tangible and malleable (photography) , the other intangible and best left as a first impression (music). I am into shooting HDR (High Dynamic Range) photos…it is where I shoot one image with as many as 9 different exposures, and then combine them together for the final shot. It is so much fun…WAY BETTER THAN PRO TOOLS!!! 🙂 I hope you enjoy what moves me and what I enjoy seeing….feel free to leave me a comment!  Have a beautiful holiday!

Incredible Bill Evans, Paul Motian and Chuck Israels 1962

In Your Own Sweet Way, possibly performed live somewhere in Italy is my guess. The trio is on fire, Bill swinging hard as ever and yet so precise, and some GREAT trades with Paul Motian. Beautiful brushwork by Mr. Motian…enjoy this.  AP

We lost Paul Motian today…

One of the greatest EVER. 80 years young, so creative. My brief moment with Paul was in NYC in 1996 when he cheerfully agreed to be to the drummer for my CD project, “Dedications”. The disc featured Paul and Dave Holland ( the first time the two had EVER recorded together!), Michael and Randy Brecker and Gary Bartz.  I was, needless to say, in heaven. Paul heard my tunes and made them his own…it was incredible.  And he was a beautiful cat on top of everything else.  We will miss you Paul.  Thank you for your spirit and your voice. You have forever changed the way we hear music. Here is a track from “Dedications” entitled Mr. Softee, with Paul Motian , Dave Holland and myself.  Peace.
