My latest book will be out in the first quarter of 2012.  It is my “Concepts for Improvisation” series, Volume 3. This will be the latest release and will complete the trilogy along with Volumes 1 & 2,  “The Diminished Cycle” and “The Architecture of Music”. Each song is a transcribed piano score of me playing my compositions on many of my recordings. Below is a list of songs included as well as their respective recording:

One of the greatest EVER. 80 years young, so creative. My brief moment with Paul was in NYC in 1996 when he cheerfully agreed to be to the drummer for my CD project, “Dedications”. The disc featured Paul and Dave Holland ( the first time the two had EVER recorded together!), Michael and Randy Brecker and Gary Bartz.  I was, needless to say, in heaven. Paul heard my tunes and made them his own…it was incredible.  And he was a beautiful cat on top of everything else.  We will miss you Paul.  Thank you for your spirit and your voice. You have forever changed the way we hear music. Here is a track from “Dedications” entitled Mr. Softee, with Paul Motian , Dave Holland and myself.  Peace.

This really shows What Jaki is about as a pianist. He nails everything from solo piano to stride to straight ahead blowing to big band shout chorus arranging in one solo!  WHAT A JOY!!
